DeChambeau Hits Patron, Cards 76 in Masters First Round

Bryson DeChambeau shot 4-over-par 76 in the first round of the Masters on April 9, 2026, at Augusta National Golf Club. The 32-year-old LIV Golf player hit a patron with his tee shot on the par-3 sixth hole before taking triple bogey on the 11th after three swings to escape a greenside bunker. He finished with bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes after a birdie at the 17th.

On the 180-yard sixth, DeChambeau pulled his tee shot left, striking a patron in the leg. The ball bounced toward the green and settled 24 yards off it. DeChambeau covered his mouth upon impact, later gave the patron a golf ball and shook his hand, then chipped to three feet and made par to stay even.

DeChambeau remained even par until the 11th, where his approach from the fairway avoided the pond guarding the green but rolled into the greenside bunker. His first sand shot advanced three yards, the second missed the ball entirely, and the third reached 15 feet past the hole. He two-putted for triple bogey, reaching three over par.

DeChambeau three-putted the 16th for bogey, moving to four over, then birdied the 17th with an eight-foot putt after an iron from rough. He bogeyed the 18th to close at 76. Last year, he opened with 73, rallied to enter the final round tied for the lead with Rory McIlroy, and finished tied for fifth.

DeChambeau tees off Friday at 1:20 p.m. ET.
