Boston Scott, a 30-year-old running back who played six NFL seasons primarily with the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement on October 30, 2024, via a statement on Instagram.[1][2]
Scott, listed at 5-foot-6, played college football at Louisiana Tech University in Conference USA before signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2018. He spent time on the Eagles' practice squad that season and made his NFL debut with Philadelphia in 2019.[3][4]
In 71 career games, all with the Eagles, Scott rushed for 1,341 yards and 10 touchdowns. He gained the nickname "Giants Killer" for strong performances against the New York Giants, including 84 rushing yards and a touchdown in the January 21, 2022, NFC wild-card playoff victory.[4][5]
Scott's most recent regular-season game came on January 7, 2024, when the Eagles defeated the Giants 27-10 at MetLife Stadium. He appeared in Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, recording three carries for 7 yards in Philadelphia's 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.[4][6]
In 2024, Scott signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams on May 29 but was released on August 27 during final cuts. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad on October 16 but did not appear in a game before retiring.[1][2]
In his retirement statement, Scott expressed mixed emotions, writing, "There is so much I’m proud of... There is anger, bitterness, but also joy, and happiness." He credited coaches, teammates and his faith for his journey from college walk-on to the NFL.[1]
Off the field, Scott has partnered with esports organization Dignitas as a content creator.[7]
