Broncos eye Aaron Rodgers amid free agency

Denver Broncos officials have shown interest in signing free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, according to a report. The four-time NFL MVP, who turns 42 this season, signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason and has not ruled out playing in 2026. Pro Football Talk reported the Broncos' consideration on Wednesday.

The NFL's new league year began last week, with the draft weeks away. Rodgers started 16 games for Pittsburgh last season, throwing 24 touchdowns and helping the Steelers win the AFC North for the first time in five years. Pittsburgh lost to the Houston Texans in the wild-card playoff round.

Denver head coach Sean Payton holds a Super Bowl title from his time with New Orleans. No coach has won the Lombardi Trophy with two different franchises. The Broncos reached the AFC championship game last season after Bo Nix, their starting quarterback the past two years, suffered an ankle injury in a divisional playoff victory over Buffalo; Jarrett Stidham started the title-game loss to New England.

Nix rehabs his injury and could return by training camp. Pittsburgh plans to have Will Howard and Mason Rudolph in its 2026 quarterback room. Rodgers has made no official offseason visit to Denver.
